Mitty Fredericks is a woman being held captive by her foster father. A woman with no memory of her past and no worldly experience. Lawrence Kingsley Jones is just a regular guy stopping for directions on his way to the west coast. When the two of them meet, it’s love at first sight. Jones sees in her the chance to finally have a girl of his own, while Mitty sees in him someone who can rescue her from her life of captivity.

After a hasty marriage, the two of them find themselves on a ship bound for San Francisco where a new life awaits them, but fate has other plans in store. After a mishap strands them on the island of Puerto Santo, Jones learns there’s much more to his wife than meets the eye. First come the spells, strange episodes in which she wanders off in a catatonic state. Then there’s the unusual language she whispers in her sleep and the wild passion that seems to be simmering just below the surface.

The more he learns about Mitty, the less he seems to understand. Why is the girl’s foster father pursuing them so desperately and what is her connection to the mountain looming on the horizon? As the questions pile up, Jones finds himself stumbling into a waking nightmare.
