William Hope Hodgson (1877–1918) was a figure in early 20th-century weird fiction and cosmic horror. A former sailor, Hodgson used his nautical experiences to craft stories of maritime adventure and otherworldly terror.

Curated by S. T. Joshi, this collection features Hodgson's novel, The House on the Borderland. Set in a remote manor in Ireland beset by supernatural forces and inexplicable time shifts, the story blurs the lines between fantasy, horror, and science fiction.

Also included are The Voice in the Night, The Mystery of the Derelict, The Whistling Room, and The Thing in the Weeds. These stories are set on the high seas or in haunted rooms. Included as an Appendix is On the Bridge, a prose-poem about the sinking of the Titanic.
