Mateo Matisse is a teenage musician living in Little Spirit, a Brooklyn enclave populated by refugees from the sunken Caribbean island of San José. When a supernatural attack disrupts a local festival, Mateo discovers he possesses ancient magical abilities tied to his heritage. He must team up with a young activist named Chela to navigate a world of gods and pirates to protect his community and uncover the truth about their lost homeland.
