Amani is a young woman living on a small moon who is kidnapped by the Vathek empire because she is a near-identical body double for the hated Princess Maram. She is forced to impersonate the princess at public events to protect her from assassination attempts while navigating the dangerous politics of the royal court. As Amani struggles to maintain her own identity, she finds herself drawn into a burgeoning rebellion against the empire's oppressive rule.
