The Best of Weird Tales: The 1920s includes “Ooze,” which ventures to Cajun country where man plays God with damaging results, leading to a scandalous family tragedy. Stories like “Beyond the Door” and “The Hanging of Alfred Wadham” feature unsavory forces that compel their characters to think, feel, or act aberrant. “The Red Brain” and “The Copper Bowl” provide takes on egregious evils, with the latter serving as a torture tale. “Through the Vortex” explores conspiracy theories around aircraft “lost at sea,” while “The Night Wire” features newsmen of the night laboring away at copy.
