Julian Dakkia, Roman general and nephew to the emperor, has played his role as conqueror well. Yet, from the moment he first saw Malina, he was enthralled by the Dacian dancer. Years later, the fierce beauty stands before him as a captive on a scarred battlefield. To save her life, Julian instinctively shifts into his dragon form—an act of treason that could cost him his head on the imperial gate.

Though the laws of Rome dictate that he is the conqueror and she is the captured, Julian and his dragon recognize a bond that transcends imperial decree. At twenty-one, Malina has survived the loss of her family and is determined to fight until her final breath. She is stunned to discover that the centurion who once gave her a secret talisman is the same Roman general of legendary brutality who now holds her fate in his hands. Despite their positions, she cannot deny the connection between their souls. As Malina learns that Julian is trapped within his mad uncle’s schemes for total domination, she joins him in plotting the downfall of the empire. Navigating a world of flying deathriders and conquest, their love ignites a firestorm that threatens to end in heartbreak, death, or both.
