Dark Carnival

First published in 1947, Ray Bradbury’s debut collection, Dark Carnival, is a collection of twenty-seven stories. Long out of print in its original form, this collection is the foundation of Bradbury’s career and the first glimpse of the world he would continue to explore for decades.

Within these pages are tales including “The Homecoming,” “The Small Assassin,” “The Emissary,” and “The Jar.” These stories are populated by the strange, the outcast, and the macabre—characters who live in the shadows of small towns and the corners of the human mind. Dark Carnival is a journey through the carnival of the soul where the line between the mundane and the monstrous is forever blurred.
