Foundation and Empire

Set in a far future where humanity is spread across the galaxy under the rule of the Galactic Empire, The Foundation Trilogy introduces the theory of “psychohistory”—a method of predicting the future of large populations using a combination of statistics, history, and sociology.

In Foundation and Empire, the young Foundation faces two defining crises. First comes the last, desperate offensive of the crumbling Galactic Empire, as General Bel Riose seeks to crush the outpost on Terminus—only to be undone by the very decay consuming the Empire.

A century later, with the Foundation ascendant, a new and unforeseen threat arises: the Mule, a mutant warlord whose power to sway emotions defies Hari Seldon’s predictions and shatters the long-assumed path to a Second Empire.
