Masters of Science Fiction

Fritz Leiber was a writer whose work crossed boundaries from horror to sword and sorcery. This book explores Leiber’s science fiction oeuvre.

“The Foxholes of Mars” is a tale of war on Mars, with a soldier questioning the purpose of the battle against aliens. “Space-Time for Springers” is told from the perspective of Gummitch, a cat with a genius IQ and an appetite for scientific knowledge. “Night Passage” is set in a Las Vegas where Earthlings and extra-terrestrials mingle, following a man on a ride with a woman from Mercury while being pursued. “The Mutant’s Brother” is a mix of horror and science fiction, featuring identical twins who each carry a frightful chromosome, with one being a serial killer. “A Pail of Air” takes place in an underground nest, where a family fights to survive in a sunless, post-apocalyptic world where helium and carbon dioxide become threats.
